เมื่อวันที่ ๑๕ พฤษภาคม ๒๕๖๙ นางสาวสมฤดี พู่พรอเนก รองอธิบดีกรมยุโรป รักษาราชการแทนอธิบดีกรมยุโรป ได้พบกับนางสาวจูลีเด คายือฮัน (H.E. Ms. Julide Kayıhan) เอกอัครราชทูตสาธารณรัฐตุรกีประจำประเทศไทย เพื่อหารือแนวทางการส่งเสริมและผลักดันความร่วมมือระหว่างกันเพื่อเตรียมการยกระดับความสัมพันธ์ไทย - ตุรกีสู่ความเป็นหุ้นส่วนทางยุทธศาสตร์ (Strategic Partnership) ภายในปี ๒๕๗๑

ในโอกาสนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายเห็นพ้องที่จะร่วมกันส่งเสริมความร่วมมือทวิภาคีระหว่างไทยกับตุรกีในด้านต่าง ๆ อาทิ การแลกเปลี่ยนการเยือนระดับสูง ส่งเสริมความร่วมมือด้านความมั่นคงและอุตสาหกรรมป้องกันประเทศ การบูรณาการความร่วมมือกับภาคเอกชนของทั้งสองฝ่าย และการส่งเสริมการลงทุนของตุรกีในไทยรวมทั้งเขตพัฒนาพิเศษภาคตะวันออก (EEC) ตลอดจนการศึกษาความเป็นไปได้ในการส่งเสริมความร่วมมือตามแนวเส้นทาง Middle Corridor เชื่อมโยงภูมิภาคเอเชียกับยุโรป

On 15 May 2026, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Acting Director-General of the Department of European Affairs met with H.E. Ms. Julide Kayıhan, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to the Kingdom of Thailand to discuss ways to promote and move forward cooperation in preparation for elevating Thailand - Türkiye relations to a Strategic Partnership by 2028.

On this occasion, both sides agreed to jointly promote bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Türkiye in various fields, such as the exchange of high-level visits, security and defence industry cooperation, and economic collaboration. In particular, they emphasised enhancing engagement between the private sectors of both countries, as well as promoting Turkish investment in Thailand and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). Furthermore, both sides discussed exploring potential cooperation along the Middle Corridor linking Asia and Europe.
