เมื่อวันที่ 17 พฤษภาคม 2567 นางสาวสมฤดี พู่พรอเนก รองอธิบดีกรมยุโรป ในฐานะรักษาการอธิบดีกรมยุโรป ได้ให้การต้อนรับและพบหารือกับคณะราชวิทยาลัยการทัพ (Royal College of Defence Studies: RCDS) สหราชอาณาจักร โดยมีพลเรือตรี Steven Dainton เป็นผู้นำคณะดังกล่าวมาเยือนประเทศไทย ระหว่างวันที่ 12 - 18 พฤษภาคม 2567 โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อรับทราบท่าทีของไทยต่อทิศทางภูมิรัฐศาสตร์โลก ทั้งนี้ พันเอก Benjamin Foster ผู้ช่วยทูตฝ่ายทหาร สถานเอกอัครราชทูตสหราชอาณาจักรประจำประเทศไทย และผู้แทนจากกรมอาเซียน กรมเอเชียตะวันออก กรมเอเชียใต้ ตะวันออกกลางและแอฟริกา และกรมอเมริกาและแปซิฟิกใต้ เข้าร่วมการหารือดังกล่าวด้วย

            ในโอกาสนี้ รองอธิบดีกรมยุโรปได้กล่าวขอบคุณพลเรือตรี Steven Dainton และคณะ RCDS ที่มาร่วมแลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลและมุมมองด้านความมั่นคงระดับโลกและภูมิภาคกับฝ่ายไทย โดยผู้แทนของทั้งสองฝ่ายได้แลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองในประเด็นต่างๆ อาทิ ความร่วมมือระหว่างไทยและอาเซียนในการแก้ไขสถานการณ์ในเมียนมา
การดำเนินนโยบายของไทยและอาเซียนท่ามกลางการแข่งขันระหว่างจีน-สหรัฐอเมริกา และแนวทางการขยายความร่วมมืออย่างสร้างสรรค์กับประเทศนอกภูมิภาค เพื่อเสริมสร้างความเป็นแกนกลางของอาเซียน ตลอดจนความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจระหว่างไทยกับประเทศในภูมิภาคแอฟริกา

            การเดินทางเยือนไทยของคณะ RCDS ในครั้งนี้ เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงการศึกษาดูงานในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ประกอบด้วยนายทหารอาวุโส จำนวน 17 คน จาก 12 ประเทศ โดยก่อนหน้านี้ทางคณะได้เดินทางเยือนอินเดีย และมีกำหนดจะเดินทางต่อไปยังอินโดนีเซียภายหลังเสร็จสิ้นกำหนดการที่ไทยแล้ว

Deputy Director-General of the Department of European Affairs welcomes delegates from Royal College of Defence Studies, United Kingdom

          On 17 May 2024, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Acting Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, received delegates from the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), United Kingdom, led by Rear Admiral Steven Dainton.
The delegates are scheduled to visit Thailand during 12 - 18 May 2024, to seek a broader understanding of Thailand’s position on geopolitical issues. Besides, Colonel Benjamin Foster, Defence Attaché, British Embassy Bangkok.  Also joined the meeting were representatives from several departments, including Department of ASEAN affairs, Department of East Asian Affairs, the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs as well as Department of American and South Pacific Affairs..

          On this occasion, the Acting Director-General of the Department of European Affairs expressed her sincere appreciation for a fruitful discussion between the Thai side and the RCDS on regional and global security issues such as cooperation between the roles of Thailand and ASEAN vis-à-vis the situation in Myanmar; Thailand’s foregin policy amid US-China geopolitical competition, as well as the relations with ASEAN Dialogue Partners and the economic cooperation between Thailand and African nations.

          The RCDS’ visit to Thailand is a part of their study tour in South-East Asia.
The delegates include 17 senior military officers from 12 different countries. Before visiting Thailand, the delegates had visited India and are scheduled to visit Indonesia after Thailand.
