เมื่อวันที่ ๔ มีนาคม ๒๕๖๗ นายจูเวา บือร์นาร์ดู ดือ โอลีเวย์รา มาร์ตินช์ ไวน์ชไตน์ เอกอัครราชทูตสาธารณรัฐโปรตุเกสประจำประเทศไทย ได้เข้าเยี่ยมคารวะนางครองขนิษฐ รักษ์เจริญ อธิบดีกรมยุโรป เพื่ออำลาเนื่องในโอกาสที่จะพ้นจากหน้าที่ โดยทั้งสองฝ่ายได้หารือประเด็นความสัมพันธ์ทวิภาคีและการส่งเสริมความร่วมมือในด้านการค้า การลงทุน การศึกษา วัฒนธรรม                (soft power) การแลกเปลี่ยนการเยือน ได้แก่ การเยือนไทยของนายจูเวา โกมึช กราวีญู รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศสาธารณรัฐโปรตุเกสเมื่อวันที่ ๑๗ มกราคม ๒๕๖๖

                    นอกจากนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้แลกเปลี่ยนข้อคิดเห็นเกี่ยวกับความร่วมมือไตรภาคีระหว่างไทย โปรตุเกส และติมอร์-เลสเต การแลกเปลี่ยนบุคลากรและการจัดหลักสูตรอบรมนักการทูต รวมทั้งมีหารือเกี่ยวกับพัฒนาการของร่างความตกลงว่าด้วยการยกเว้นการตรวจลงตราหนังสือเดินทางทูตและราชการและหนังสือเดินทางพิเศษไทย-โปรตุเกส ร่างอนุสัญญาเพื่อการเว้นการเก็บภาษีซ้อน              ไทย-โปรตุเกสร่างบันทึกความเข้าใจว่าด้วยความร่วมมือด้านเทคโนโลยีดิจิทัลระหว่างกระทรวงดิจิทัลเพื่อเศรษฐกิจและสังคมกับกระทรวงเศรษฐกิจและการเปลี่ยนผ่านทางดิจิทัลแห่งสาธารณรัฐโปรตุเกส และการจัดการประชุม Political Dialogue ไทย-โปรตุเกส ครั้งที่ ๓ ณ กรุงเทพฯ ในช่วงครึ่งหลังของปี ๒๕๖๗

                    ปีนี้เป็นปีแห่งการครบรอบ ๑๖๕ ปี ของการสถาปนาความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตระหว่างไทยกับสาธารณรัฐโปรตุเกส ซึ่งมีการสถาปนาความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตระหว่างกันเมื่อวันที่ ๑๐ กุมภาพันธ์ ๒๔๐๒ โดยโปรตุเกสเป็นชาติตะวันตกชาติแรกที่เริ่มเข้ามาติดต่อกับไทยตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา นอกจากนี้ขนมไทยที่มีชื่อเสียงก็ได้รับอิทธิพลมาจากโปรตุเกส อาทิ ทองหยิบ ทองหยอด และฝอยทอง

Ambassador of Portugal paid a farewell call on Director-General of the Department of European Affairs

                    On 4 March 2024, H.E. Mr. João Bernardo Weinstein, Ambassador of
the Portuguese Republic to the Kingdom of Thailand, paid a farewell call on Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, on the occasion of the completion of his tenure in Thailand.

                   Both sides exchanged views on promoting bilateral ties and cooperation in trade and investment, education, culture, and the visit to Thailand of H.E. Mr. João Gomes Cravinho, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Portuguese Republic on 17 January 2023.

                   Moreover, both sides also exchanged views on trilateral cooperation between Thailand, Portugal and Timor-Leste, the exchange of personnel and training courses for diplomats. Both sides also discussed the developments of the draft Agreement between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Portuguese Republic on the Exemption of Visa for Holders of Diplomatic, Official or Special Passports, the draft Convention between the Portuguese Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income, the draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition of
the Portuguese Republic on the Cooperation in the field of Digital Technology and the arrangements of the 3^rd Thai - Portuguese Political Dialogue which will take place in Bangkok in the second half of the year.

                   This year marks the 165^th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Portuguese Republic, which was established on 10^th February 1859. The Portuguese Republic was the first western country to come to Thailand since the Ayutthaya period. Many famous Thai desserts
are influenced by Portuguese cuisine such as Thongyib, Thongyod, and Foithong.
